The seven sisters
There are many legends about the rock formation "The Seven Sisters", but the story of Amfi Skansen's Seven Sisters started with a request for basic lighting. But it developed into so much more than that.
The idea behind the concept was to create something that not only satisfied the client's wishes, but also added value. An installation, or rather an art installation that could also cover the need for basic lighting in the 11m high common areas. Inspired by the rock formation and their connection to the local community, we decided to introduce Botnkrona, Grytfoten, Skjerdingen, Tvillingan, Kvasstinden and Stortinden. This time inside Amfi Skansen, Sandnessjøen. Seven free-standing Sisters, each with two 4-meter-long "wings" at a 90-degree angle, placed at the same distance, as the rock formation itself.
The intention was to recreate the concept as realistically as possible, so therefore the direction (angle) and the height differences also correspond to the actual rock formation. Seven different elements with a backlit surface that changed behavior, depending on the point of view. Until October 2016, it was Syv Søstre who sat together and looked out over Sandnessjøen. Today there is another "Seven Sisters" looking back.
